Personal Statement

My Personal Statement

My life has always been enveloped by the endless possibilities of the media arts, and it's something that I am definitely hoping to become a part of. I've always looked for a medium that enticed me in this field and the two that came to my attention are Game design, and animation. There have been so many influences in these fields that I have only dreamed to try and express in my own way. Now if I could break this barrier keeping me into this exciting field I would be euphoric. It is a dream that I have waited to work towards for a long time, and I’d do whatever it would take for me to enter it. I’ve been dying to express my own brand of art unto the world and now that there could be a chance for me to get there I’d work as hard as I can and beyond that in order make it true.
Game Design interests me because it is such a new artistic medium, and I have always been intrigued by the possibilities in video games and the animation that is part of it. Video games have always had such an appeal to me because each new game introduces a different style. Animation is continuously developing, so that whenever I watch it, it moves in amazing and new ways. Being able to be a part of creating these pieces of art would be such great path for me to take.
I want to learn as many aspects of game design as I can so that I can be a contributing member of a team in the field. However, I’d like to focus primarily on the animation of video games, like cutscenes and character movements. I want to be a part of bringing the characters of the game to life and seeing them move. When it comes to projects, nothing gets me more motivated than my Capstone for Game Design. I’m really looking forward to actually being involved in the game development; creating stories, designing characters and levels, and bringing them to life. Showcasing what I’ve learned over the years here at Bloomfield would make me feel like I accomplished something noteworthy. Every time I see games and movies by Square Enix, Studio Ghibli, Pixar, and Bungie, I tell myself that I would love to be involved with something of that caliber one day. Though that will take a lot of time, work, and skill, it will be worth it when I am making those pieces.
